Currently works is going in full swing at the Salem Railway Junction to get an escalator for the convenience of the public. The escalator has arrived and work is going on to make the erection complete at the earliest. The escalator was build in such a way it will function outside the junction building.
The escalator will be placed behind the lift on platform 1 which is very closer to the second parking lot and it will be connected to the pedestrian bridge. The public need not make an entry through the junction premises for availing the new project.
The commissioning of the escalator which is made outside the junction premises will decrease the congestion for the public especially in the platform 1 in a huge way. The public can make use of the lift to reach platform 3 and 4 and use steps to reach platform 2 and 5.
The railway management has decided to change platform 5 as an island platform and the escalator will be established there. As per recent news from the railway authorities the work will be completed by the end of this month. It is glad news that Coimbatore is the only junction as far as Salem Railway Division is concerned to have escalator facility. It is anticipated that escalator facility will come up very soon at Erode and Tirupur region.
