The Telangana Government has urged to form water associations in all villages and districts of the state to collect water tax, and the amount will be used for doing the maintenance work for the drinking water pipeline network which will be organized through Mission Bhageeratha.


The association will consist of women members from self help group and they will act in the lines of Pani Samitis of Gujarat. The pipeline erecting work and maintenance of drinking water will cost around 875-900 crores. Mr. Rama Rao the Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development has said steps will be taken to collect water tax from the public.


The BJP Floor Leader Laxman has questioned how the government will arrange for the funds for working the project. Rama Rao has said funds which were allotted during the last two successive budgets were only counter guarantee which was given by the government for getting loans from banks and other financial institutions.


Nearly 20,000 crores are coming from NABARD and HUDCO and nearly 70% of the work will be completed. Nearly 24,224 people who are staying outside the Outer Ring Road will be covered in 99 constituencies and by the end of this financial year around 6,100 habitations will get water connections. By the end of 2017-2018, nearly 15,872 will get connections and thereafter 2200 will get in the successive year.
