University of Hyderabad witnessed tense scenes ahead of JNUSU president Kanhaiah Kumar's visit today. Students of Hyderabad University went on rampage indulging in violence after Prof. Appa Rao resumed charge as Vice Chancellor after being on leaver for two months since the suicide of Rohit Vemula in January.
As soon as Appa Rao resumed charge, students who have been demanding his resignation for quite some time went on rampage and even went to his house and destroyed furniture, computers. They even indulged in stone pelting. Some students accuse ABVP students and some faculty members of protecting Prof Appa Rao.
As tensions increased the university was virtually shut down. During that time students manhandled non teaching staff who at once went on flash strike. Students even manhandled media personnel which resulted in some minor injuries.
Today Kanhaiah Kumar is all set to visit the University of Hyderabad. It is known that Kanhaiah was arrested on sedition charges and he was out on interim bail with strict restrictions. Sources say Kanhaiah may be stopped at the university gate itself.
Appa Rao speaking to scribes said it was a black day in the history of the University of Hyderabad and added that few students cannot dictate who can be the VC.
