Delhi assembly has passed a new resolution against the central governments proposition to levy one percent excise duty on the jewelers and has urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to roll it back.

As per the resolution the House has understood the hardships which was forced by both the jewelers and the prospective customers in wake of the latest proposal in the union budget to impose one percent excise duty on non silver jewellery, and has said that such a move is detrimental to the interest of all the concerned.

The House has urged the Prime Minister to direct the Union Finance Minister to roll back the excise duty at the earliest. The Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has said the BJP led Central Government is arrogant in the issue. He has said on one side the government has reduced the taxes and on the other side it has levied excise duty on the jewelers.

kejriwal said the jewelers are quite people and they are forced to protest on the roads. He said Indian jewellery has international repute and instead of encouraging the BJP government has put more pressure on the jewelers. He further said the Modi government is arrogant as the congress government was and they don’t listen to the people.
