Bangaru Telangana, this is a noble dream that the people of this
region wished for and this was the slogan which made them vote in droves
for TRS party in 2014 elections. For farmers and unemployed, the dream
is yet to be realized and nobody knows if it will ever become true.
But
for lawmakers, the dream has already come true! The Telangana
Government yesterday passed the bill for a record hike in the salaries
of legislative members. This bill makes Telangana MLAs the highest paid
law makers currently in the country. The reasoning behind this
exorbitant hike is not there.
The salaries of
MLAs were increased by 163 percent and that of ministers by up to 68
percent and the salary of the Chief Minister was increased by 78
percent. CM KCR has defended this decision with a statement that law
makers should face no hurdles in discharging their duties.
The
bill also envisages that the wives of deceased MLAs receive full amount
as pension. However, at the same time people from several sections of
the society are expressing their disapproval on this bill. This is
certainly not a happy thing for the people who vote politicians to power
and hardly get anything in return.
