The National Institutional Ranking Framework that was discharged on Monday by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development have presently thrown up many surprises, while the Indian Institute of Technology -Madras which did not make it last year, has presently ranked the top list.


The Anna University that has ranked 293rd in the world ranking does not find a place in NIRF Survey. Many colleges which are affiliated to the Anna University are among the top 100. The TN state has the largest number of engineering colleges among the top 100 and as many 11 are among the top 15 and 21 are among the top 100.


The IIT-M Director Baskar Ramamurthi has said that the rank was the reflection of the commitment of the faculty, staff and students, and has added that the institute has taken pride in its community outreach programs. The Bharathiar University in Coimbatore is ranked 14th with an overall score of 74.31%.


The Registrars of University of Madras and Anna University has told their officials that they would look into why their institutions were left out of the ranking system. Among the pharmacy colleges is the one which is connected to the Madras Medical College and is ranked in 50th position.
