Iceland Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson has resigned with respect to Panama Papers leaks. A negative spot light on him forced him to resign the post. As per the leaks from Panama law firm, it showed Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson owned an offshore company, Wintris, along with his spouse.

He also was accused for covering up millions of dollars. Regarding this, Progressive party's deputy leader and Agriculture Minister Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson told media, "The Prime Minister had a meeting with Parliamentary group members and he assured that he would step down as Prime Minister."

Due to this big protests took place in front of Iceland Parliament. Initially Gunnlaugsson called President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson to dissolve parliament, but his request was refused.

President who spoke to reporters said, "It is not normal that Prime Minister alone.. should be given the authority to dissolve the parliament. Majority of Parliament members should be satisfied with that decision." Most of them said that this decision from Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson is just unusual.
