The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has signed a memorandum with the Asea Brown Boveri Group on Tuesday for making the electrification of rural homes in India. The agreement which was signed gives the IIT students to give an opportunity to intern in the company matters.


In India nearly 50 million homes are not connected to the power grid and nearly 100 million are suffering from four to eight hours of power cut. Nearly 50% of the Indian cannot afford to buy power at Ts.5 per unit. Presently the IIT-M has made a solar grid which will give power to homes, prevents blackouts and to minimize the cost by half.


Sanjay Sharma a senior executive of the company’s India office has told that the process of electrification that require batteries, which will come from CSR, which is the company that has allotted funds for the research and development.


On Tuesday nearly 10 students and research scholars have received internship offers from ABB group. The IIT-M director Bhaskar Ramamurthi has told that the PhD students would work on the project that they have already planned even in that company. At the event, the ABB has put on display a robot that can be used on production floors.
