Not even a week has passes after the West Indies has lifted their second world T20 title, coming up another T20 tournament which will beckon the world of cricket. This time the glamour quotient returns under a new sponsor and two new teams, which is the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League gets underway on Saturday with 8 teams, 60 matches and nearly 120 players from eight different countries are involved.
The defending champions Mumbai Indian has decided to take on debutant Rising Pune super giants in the opener, where for the first time Ms. Dhoni will lead a new team at Wankhede stadium. The CSK has remained as the most consistent team and Dhoni will keep on replicating the same triumph with the super giants.
On one side, while Dhoni is in charge of the replacement sides, Suresh Raina the other face of CSK will be heading the other. The most capped IPL player Raina will take command of the Gujarat Lions. Raina’s experience of examining Dhoni leading from close proximity promises to rub on him. While the players’ auction which was held in February has focused mainly on Lions and Super giants.
From Saturday evening the ball will set to be rolling. Presently the IPL has come under the hammer for not doing the right things for the spirit of cricket, the spot fixing scandal and the betting controversy has become its lowest point. But at the end of the day it has managed to survive for nine years and we all hope for a cleaner and healthier season ahead.
