Many have thought that the auto rickshaw drivers are the only ones who are fleecing customers, the cab fares have also touched dizzying increase in the city presently with app based aggregators are charging three to four times the usual fare during the peak hours in Hyderabad city.

The Karnataka state has become the first state to regulate cab aggregators, which are in a move to curb surge pricing in the absence of any regulation in Telangana which has currently left the commuters in lurch. Each day nearly 50,000 cabs ply on the city and are serving around two Lakhs people and most cab aggregators charge extra amount when the demand is in peak.

The customers have made a complaint that even when there are enough cabs, the surge pricing is 1.8 times to four times normal pricing. They all feel that in spite of the base fare which is minimal, they have pay high amount on regular days. Without surge pricing, the distance of 6 kms shouldn’t cost more than Rs.100.

According to Sec 67 of the Motor Vehicles Act, it is the duty of the transport department to fix fares for public service vehicles like autos and taxis so that there is no unfair competition. Meanwhile the traffic polices have booked nearly 5000 auto rickshaw drivers for demanding excess fair in Hyderabad limits during 2015.
