Currently most abortion cases are reported in urban areas below the age group of 20, which points out the more liberal attitude towards sex and earlier engagement in sexual activity was revealed by the Government Health Survey.


As per the survey from NSSO, it was reported that most of the pregnancies which were reported are 77% from rural areas and 74% from urban areas. This situation has ended with a live birth while the abortion rate was 2% in rural area and 3% in urban India. But the highest 14% abortions were seen mostly in the youngest age groups of those who are below the age of 20 in urban areas.


As per the survey the pregnancy wastage was the highest at 20% which was also found in the youngest age group who are less than 20 years of age. It was identified that among women in the age group of 15-49 years, about 9.6% in the rural areas and 6.8% in the urban areas were found pregnant during 365 days preceding the date of survey.


In cities nearly 42% children were born in public hospitals and 48% were born in private hospitals. Because of lack of health care facilities in the rural areas, the survey that was highlighted was about 20% non institutional child births were reported in villages and it was reported as 11% in urban areas.
