The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Sleuths have arrested a Dubai bound passenger at the RGI Airport while he was trying to smuggle out Rs.1.41 crores worth foreign currency and the passenger has come to board the Dubai bound Emirates Flight which was acting on a special alert.


The DRI Sleuths has opened his checked baggage and has found Rs.1.41 crores worth foreign currency which was wrapped in black polythene and concealed in plastic jars. The seized foreign currency contains Australian dollars, Saudi Riyals, Omani Riyals, Qatar Riyals and Kuwaiti Dinars.


The DRI Director General MK Singh has told that the foreign currency was obtained from unauthorized dealers in violation of FEMA 199 and the offender were booked under the Customs Act which was read with FEMA.


The accused was produced before the special judge for economic offenses and he was remanded in judicial custody. The seized foreign currencies are in the custody of the DRI Sleuths and the case will be investigated for getting clear information in the issue.
