Some NGOs and right thinking people are blaming IPL and governments for acute water and drought problem and Maharashtra High Court after hearing PIL against IPL ordered shifting of IPL matches from the state. But the question in everyone's mind is whether shifting IPL matches solve drought, water problem and problems of farmers.

Agricultural experts say instead of blaming IPL for the huge drinking and irrigation water crisis in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh,Telangana and other states and barring water usage for cricket pitches is not a solution.

Agricultural experts and farmer's federations feel much should be done to tackle El Nino weather phenomenon and excessive exploitation. They say farmers should be trained to produce more in less water and conservation of water is important for the solution.

Mr P Chengal Reddy of Consortium of Indian Farmers Association says, “Majority of farmers have no knowledge on alternate crops and their markets. Paddy needs 13 to 15 wettings. But groundnut, cotton and other crops need four to five wettings.”

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments are coming with various plans to promote low water consuming crops but no one is implementing on ground.
