Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh celebrates his 97th birthday and as a birthday surprise, the Panagarh Air Force Station in West Bengal was renamed Air Force Station Arjan Singh. For the first time, an airbase is named after a person.

Arjan Singh is the first person to be five-star officer. Air Marshal C. Hari Kumar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command told media, "This is a proud moment for everyone of us. It is indeed a proud moment for Indian Air Force and the State of West Bengal.

Arjan Singh is a role model and icon for all of us. It is our duty to work hard to ensure that his name is looked after with capability and performance. This Panagarh airbase was constructed in 1944 during the Second World War and after India’s independence.

It also played a crucial role in 1965 and 1971 wars. Arjan Singh served as Air Force chief between 1964-69 and he was the first Air Chief to be elevated to the rank of Air Chief Marshal on January 16, 1966.
