Sources have stated that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is mulling ways to boost its revenue and much to the annoyance of denizens and an increase is in parking fees is in the offing. The current rate for parking a four-wheeler in any of the 53 parking lots is managed by the civic body which costs Rs 20 per hour, but now officials are contemplating in increasing the fare to Rs 50 per hour.


Sources has also told  that GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy would announce revised parking fares by the end of this month. Vaddadi Shankar, a resident of Basheerbagh has told that if the GHMC wants to increase the fees for parking, the least it can do is provide efficient parking spots in the city and the people wouldn't mind paying extra money if they are promised proper parking spots.


As per the latest plan, the civic body was planning to construct four such parking complexes at Imax, Kukatpally, Saroornagar and Miyapur by 2015. Dampening progress, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had refused to part with land for the purpose.


J Praveena Kumari a resident of Anandbagh has stated that they are already paying high amounts for parking in malls and other places and they might as well get used to paying for the same at parking lots. Officials have promised that they are aware of this menace and are working towards a solution.
