Sources have stated that the cash-strapped Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is finding ways to increase its income, and much to the disturbance of the denizens and an increase in parking fees is in the offing. Currently for parking a four-wheeler in any of the 53 parking lots which is managed by the civic body costs Rs 20 per hour and the officials are contemplating by increasing the fare to Rs 50 per hour.

The GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy by the end of this month will declare the revised and new parking rates in the city. Vaddadi Shankar a resident of Basheerbagh has stated that GHMC needs to increase the fares for parking and the least it can do is to provide efficient parking spots in the city.

Shankar also added that the people of the city will not mind paying extra money if they are promised proper parking spots in the city. Previously the GHMC had made tall claims about building multi-level parking lots but nothing has been materialized so far.

Residents have also claimed that many of the city's parking lots have been taken over by the private contractors who are demanding exorbitant amounts from motorists without proper permits. Meanwhile the officials have confessed that they are aware of this menace and are presently working towards a solution.
