The Municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday has declared a war on posters, flexis, hoardings and banners which are erected without permission from the civic body. The minister has issued 'strict instructions' to the GHMC to file criminal cases against those violating rules and erecting such posters or banners without any permission.

The minister's directive which began to be implemented with immediate effect on Thursday has come after elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation council this February. Rama Rao on Thursday has also told the GHMC to invoke the Public Places Disfigurement Act against violators.

He has told that the image of the city was receiving a beating with posters and banners of political leaders and educational institutions among others and is becoming eyesores. Apart from causing distraction to drivers they block the view of the road ahead.

Rama Rao has said that individuals and institutions are also abusing the space on road dividers for installing posters and flexis. The GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has ordered his staff to get cracking on the minister's instructions and the civic body staff has began clearing such posters, banners and flexis in several parts of the city.
