Start of the academic year give tensions to parents as private schools hike fees exorbitantly. Private schools act in high handed manner and even though Government issues statement that officials are cracking the whip, the ground reality is officials work hand in glove with the school managements.

Delhi Government headed by Aravind Kejriwal cracked down on private schools for charging exorbitant fees and also issued news paper ads asking people to complain against the schools. Parents in Hyderabad say Telangana government is ignoring school fee hike despite CM KCR promising to act on the school management.

At a public hearing organized by Joint Action Committee for School Fee Regulation (JACSFR), parents shared their concerns over the exorbitant and unopposed increase of fees year after year and alleged many a times managements increased fees by more than 50%. Parents said they had been left in financial crunch and some parents even said school management threatened them and even their children were victimised and subjected to humiliation.Father of a student at Kakatiya Vidyaniketan School in Mehdipatnam, said “My wife sold her mangalsutra to pay school fees last year, I may have to sell my kidney to pay fees this year.“ Some say since many of the private schools are run by politicians, ministers and MLAs,MPs,Government will never act against them.

Panel constituting retired High Court judge Justice B Chandra Kumar, former chairperson of National Council for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) professor Shanta Sinha and chief general manager of Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana, M Bullaiah, also said that the issue was an `alarming one'.They issued a statement which read “In case we question the school managements, they become unapproachable and arrogant.Children of protesting parents are targeted and harassed,“
