The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) has stated that  Mission Kakatiya, the government's flagship program will restore 46,531 tanks across the state and it does not have a scientific approach and the state might end up losing crores of rupees.

The government is planning to spend nearly Rs 20,000 crores for desilting, dredging and digging up century-old tanks. NGRI scientists has said  that without a comprehensive scientific approach the scheme would become a flop show as thousands of tanks had dried up due to non-availability of ground water.

NGRI chief scientist Shakeel Ahmed has told that Telangana is a comparatively small state with respect to geographical area and population but it is not very favorable for water resources and the state government has to be extremely serious in this issue.

The government's efforts are laudable but there is a need for scientific approach and in hard rock areas the occurrence of ground water and its movement are controlled by the thickness of the weathered layer and the presence of fractures and solutions cavities.
