On the final day for the filing of papers a total of 142 nominations were received for all the 11 constituencies in Salem district and 17 nomination papers each were received for Edappadi and Salem North, 16 each were received for Salem West and Omalur, 15 for Salem South, 14 for Attur, 11 for Mettur, ten for Yercaud (reserved) and Sankagiri, nine for Veerapandi and seven for Gangavalli (reserved) constituency.


The Official sources have said that the 11 constituencies accounted for a total 374 nomination papers till the close of the filing of nominations today. At Namakkal a total of 63 candidates have filed their nomination papers for contesting six Assembly constituencies in the district here on Friday.


All the nominations will be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is on May 2 after which the final list of contestants in each constituency will be released. In Erode district Forty three out of 69 candidates who have filed their nominations in the eight Assembly segments were Independents.
In Anthiyur A.G. Venkatachalam of DMK, Raja Sampath of DMDK, Durairaja of KMDK, and Mahendrann of Bahujan Samaj Party have filed nominations.

Congress candidate S.V. Saravanan and CPM candidate M. Munusamy, Kuppusamy of PMK and Chandramohan of BSP have submitted nomination papers in Gobi segment. In Bhavani Sagar, R. Sathya of DMK, Nagarajan of KMDK was among the candidates of recognized parties.
