The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board's (HMWS&SB) has decided to make emergency arrangements to pump water from Nagarjunasagar has drawn flak from other officials, who have told there is no need for such huge expenditure and they have contend that there is enough water to meet the city's water requirement for two more months.


Purushottama Raju the chief engineer of Nagarjunasagar dam has stated that the irrigation department uses three pumps to supply water to the city till the water level reaches 510 ft, two pumps are being used till the level reaches 506 ft and after that only one pump will be used till the level reaches 504 feet and each pump can lift 400 cusecs daily. 


The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), at the request of the state government has ordered the release of 4.2 tmcft of water to meet the requirement of Greater Hyderabad, with the release of this water the level at Sagar rose to 507.24 ft.


The board is anticipated to step in when the water level dips alarmingly at Nagarjunasagar by installing emergency pumps to draw raw water from the reservoir and supply it to Akkampally reservoir and the city gets about 225 million gallons per day through three phases of Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project.
