In the western districts of Tamilnadu an opinion poll was conducted by News 7 television channel and Tamil daily Dinamalar has given the DMK the lead and according to the poll, the party is poised to win 33 seats in the region as against 24 by the AIADMK.

Earlier on Monday the results of the survey was released and it has  pointed to the impact that a multi-cornered contest has had among voters, with the DMDK-led third front, the PMK and the BJP making a significant mark in several constituencies. They have even pushed the AIADMK to the third place in a couple of constituencies.

The biggest surprise was in Pennagaram where the PMK’s chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss was shown to be in the third spot and the party is expecting Dr. Anbumani to win the seat by a big margin. The DMK’s dominance in the Western region comes as a surprise given that several opinion polls in March had put the AIADMK in the lead.

The Western districts are also normally perceived to be a stronghold of the AIADMK with the party bagging a majority of the seats in the region in 2011 and the survey has also projected as the largest opinion poll in India, with a sample size of over 2 Lakhs with the results being released region-wise and the DMDK has led third front has not been able to take the lead in any of the 57 constituencies in the region.
