Rio Olympics are fast approaching and Indian athletes are confident of keeping up good show and winning medals making India proud.Even as they are preparing in the right earnest, controversy generated when Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) announced Bollywood actor Salman Khan as Goodwill Ambassador.
Many sportspersons felt it as a insult to the sporting fraternity and many openly opposed it. IOA did a U turn and included popular shooter Abhinav Bhindra also as Goodwill Ambassador to calm the tempers. They also invited Sachin Tendulkar to be the Goodwill Ambassador.
Sachin Tendulkar instead of accepting the invitation offered to share his valuable experience with the atheletes and motivate them completely. Tendulkar wrote a letter to IOA in which he mentioned “It will be my pleasure to meet these world-class athletes before they leave for Rio to learn about their experiences and preparations. I am also happy to be part of any awareness campaign that can rally the country around our athletes and motivate them, including amplifying their efforts and success on my Twitter and Facebook accounts,”
However IOA officials claim that they have received official communication from Sachin Tendulkar accepting to be Goodwill Ambassador of Indian Contingent.
