Sources have stated that a rare medical book which was published in 1848 has been kept at city's National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) without proper measures for its preservation and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is responsible for the upkeep of the two-floor museum.

The books are titled as `The Anatomy of the Arteries of the Human body with its Application to Pathology and Operative Surgery in Lithographic Drawings with Practical Commentaries', and these two books only exist in the world. The book weighs over 26 kg with dimensions of 28 X 23 inches and two people are required to open its each page.

The NIIMH director Ala Narayana has told that they have planned to house the book, which he has said was passed on to the institute by its former director Dr D V. Subba Reddy in the 1960s from his personal collection, in a special room where visitors would be able to browse it.

Dr. D V. Subba Reddy has added that the book has not been kept in a humidity controlled environment, but it would not be affected as the glass case and air-conditioned setting in the reading room would preserve it.
