For the forthcoming elections an opinion poll was conducted by the Tamil satellite TV channel, Puthiya Thalaimurai (PT) in association with APT and a private survey agency, has predicted that the ruling AIADMK would sweep the May 16 polls with an absolute majority by bagging an estimated 164 seats.
The PT and APT on Monday has said that around 4,992 respondents were part of the random sampling which was done in five zones at Chennai, North, East, West and South Tamilnadu between April 18 and May 4, where the DMK and Congress alliance would emerge as the second largest formation in the Assembly with 66 seats and four seats would go to the others in the fray.
The results has showed that except in the Central zone comprising the Cauvery Delta region where the DMK was ahead, the AIADMK was leading in all the other zones and the respondents were asked questions on preference for parties, the performance of the ruling AIADMK, chief ministerial candidates and a host of other parameters.
The opinion poll has found that 38.58% of the respondents have favored the AIADMK and 32.11% the DMK, the Vijayakanth led DMDK-PWF front has secured the endorsement of 8.55% and about 39.66 % has favored Jayalalitha returning as Chief Minister, while DMK chief Karunanidhi was considered a better CM candidate by 31.89%. Vijayakanth was preferred by 8.59% of the respondents.
