Vaiko the general secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and coordinator of the People’s Welfare Front that the livelihood of farmers in the Cauvery delta region would be at stake if the Centre did not prevent Karnataka from building a reservoir across the Cauvery at Mekedatu, and its proposed methane extraction project.


On Thursday Vaiko was seeking votes for Vinayaka Ramesh, the MDMK candidate for Kovilpatti constituency, at Kayathar and he has said that the shale gas exploration project was also dangerous to the farmers of Delta region.


He has termed these projects anti-farmers and he has said that the MDMK would stand firm against such projects and would not allow them in Tamil Nadu and he has sought votes for the MDMK candidate to witness developments in Kovilpatti, which was reeling under severe water crisis and also problems of traffic chaos.


Vaiko has also added that efforts would be taken to bring more transport facility to Kayathar and its surroundings if the MDMK won the Assembly election and the MDMK leader has also campaigned at Kazhugumalai, Kadambur and Kovilpatti.
