Many voters in the rural areas of the southern districts have expressed disappointment over the absence of some freebies, which they had been told would make it to the list and the anticipations has created in the run up to its release seems to have eventually dampened the impact of the AIADMK’s manifesto.


Though the 50 per cent subsidy for scooters for women did receive a positive response, many have said they do not know how to ride a scooter. And also the women have felt the beneficiaries of the scheme would actually be their husbands who would use them for the subsidy.


Jayanthi a mother of two kids has told that there was a need to strengthen the public transport system as they cannot send their daughters in scooters and then wait anxiously for their return, instead, they would love special buses for colleges.


Two AIADMK promises though received good response from the rural folk and foremost was the assurance of 100 units of free electricity, though voters wanted the billing cycle to be changed to monthly basis for the benefit to have an impact. While the DMDK led third front and the PMK had made many promises and villagers have claimed ignorance of the contents of other manifestos.
