Tamil Nadu has witnessed brisk polling in 232 Assembly constituencies with over 25 per cent voters exercising their franchise by 11 a.m. Over 300 companies of paramilitary personnel are involved in election duty.


Mr. Lakhoni has stated that Pennagaram has recorded the highest voting in the state with 85%. The actual polling percentage expected to be known by 8 pm. The turnout till 5 p.m at Coimbatore district was Mettupalayam 73%, Sulur 74 %,  Coimbatore South 58.94%, Valparai 69.80%, Thondamuthur 57.93%, Coimbatore north 57 %, Singanallur 59.80%.


Madurai district voter turnout till 5 p.m. 67.68 %, Tiruppur district 69.17%, Tirunelveli district 67.86%, and Namakkal district 77.63%. The Polling percentage till 4 p.m. in Tuticorin 64.23%, in Cuddalore it was 74.23%, Nilakottai 73%, Athoor 82%.


TN CEO Rajesh Lakhoni has also added that polling is largely peaceful barring small incidents and in the southern districts it was recorded higher turnout, which is relatively lower turnout in some places in Chennai.
