The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has felt that the BJP which is celebrating its maiden election victory in Assam and is all set to form its first government in the north east, would not have been anywhere in contention had it not engineered defection from the Congress.


He has also claimed that The Himachal Pradesh chief minister has maintained that the BJP's victory in the state was achieved using unethical defection from the Congress party and if the BJP had fought the elections on its own, it would have been nowhere in the reckoning.


The chief minister has said that the results in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu were on the anticipated lines and he was referring to the victory of Achyutanand (93) in Kerala, he has said that age is not a factor in politics. 


Meanwhile Virbhadra Singh may be playing down BJP's win in Assam, the state BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti and the leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal have described their party's victory in Assam as historic victory.
