The newly formed AIADMK government has stated that it would waive off short-term and long-term crop loans sanctioned by cooperative society to small and micro farmers and the Government has said that it would incur an additional expenditure of Rs. 5,780 crore. 


Jayalalitha had also announced a 'mangalsutra' worth eight grams of gold would be given to women. In 2009, the then Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had urged Tamilians to choose Tamil names for their children. 


During her campaign, Ms. Jayalalitha had promised phased prohibition while DMK had promised complete ban of liquor if brought to power and as soon as she took the oath of office, she has announced the closure of 500 TASMAC shops in the state and changed the working timings of shops from 12 noon to 10 pm.


Ms. Jayalalitha has also announced that 100 units of electricity will be provided to households free of cost and this will benefit everyone in particular, the 78 Lakhs domestic users consuming below 100 units will not have to pay any charge.
