BJP President Amit Shah who is riding on success of BJP in Assam has set new sights on battle in Uttar Pradesh. He also revealed that his main arch rival in the state would be Samajwadi Party (SP), and not the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Amit Shah who was briefing to media about Two years of Modi Government said, "We look at Samajwadi Party as the party to beat in Uttar Pradesh. There is no chaos about that. The SP has its base in the State intact, and a committed cadre. Therefore we feel that they will be the challenge in the polls rather than the BSP."

Amit Shah also said the two states are different and the poll strategies will also be different. He said, "We are not a new party in Uttar Pradesh as we were in Assam or at least in large parts of it.

We have 73 MPs from the State [71 from the BJP and two from NDA ally Apna Dal]." Anil Jain who is the general secretary said that PM's choice of Saharanpur could be because of upcoming polls in the state.
