Now craze for selfies is increasing and it reached such stage that people cannot live without posting their selfies and then checking on the number of likes. Many start and end their day with selfies.

This is resulting in loss of lives as many lost their lives with their craze for selfies while taking from top of the mountains, building, moving trains etc. Now a new angle is coming to selfie love and cops say selfie love of women is spelling doom for women.

Hyderabad cops say cyber criminals are on prowl to hack the social media accounts of women and use their intimate photos to blackmail them. A 32 year old criminal Nizamuddin Hyder of Safilguda met an MBA student at a job interview in 2011. He quickly became her best friend posing as orphan and Nizamuddin promised to marry her.

In her blind love she posed intimately with Nizamuddin allowing him to capture her snaps on his mobile. Only later she came to know that he was already married and tried to break away from him. ACP KCS.Raghuvir says “He started blackmailing the victim using the selfies in his possession,”.Nizamuddin threatened to upload her snaps on net and she approached cops. Cops recently arrested Nizamuddin.

Another criminal,21 year old abdul Majid, engineering student from Bholanagar captured semi nude selfies of hundreds of teenage girls after making friends with them on facebook posing as a female college student. They discussed many close private matters which they didnot even discussed with their parents like  Liquor, smoking, details of their boyfriends and sexual preferences. Some even shared their semi nude selfies and he used the same to blackmail them threatening to upload them. He was arrested twice in seven months and PD act was slapped against him.

cyberabad Cyber Crime inspector Md.Riyazuddin said “We can safely say that in about 30 per cent of cyber crime complaints, victims were blackmailed by offenders who were either cheats or jilted lovers. The photos or videos were usually taken during intimate moments or extracted through fake identity ,“

Many complaints do not translate to FIRs as victims donot want to escalate the matter and many want to stop their content from getting online. Police arrest the criminals and get the videos and snaps deleted but let the criminals with severe warning.

Riyazuddin says “If women come forward and lodge a complaint, then the accused can be punished properly. In fact, Majid was fi rst arrested only after a teen and her mother lodged a complaint with the police. In this digital age, women should never let anyone, including their closest friends, record their private photos or videos. They should also be wary of ‘intimate’ chatting,”
