Sources have stated that two more bodies were recovered from the Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) of the Army at Pulgoan town in Wardha district of Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, taking the death toll to 18 and two more dead bodies have been recovered from inside the depot.


The Wardha District Collector Shailesh Nawal has told The Hindu that 17 are injured, who was admitted to a hospital in Wardha, were stable and the identities of the deceased are yet to be established.


Sources have also stated that an “accidental fire” at the shed was followed by explosions on Tuesday morning, resulting in the deaths. And the CAD is the most crucial ammunition depot of the Army and among the largest in the world and one fire fighter is still missing.


It is said that the Collector did not rule out the recovery of more bodies and the reasons behind the incident will be known only after the completion of an inquiry by the Army,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday.
