The shifting process of Andhra Pradesh’s government employees from
the current joint capital of Hyderabad to the upcoming capital city of
Amaravati is being seen a welcome step. But at the same time a hurried
move will only be creating more problems than it solves.
The
issue should be now handled with patience, administrative acumen,
proper planning, and social and environmental consideration. This
massive transfer of about 20,000 government employees in just one shot
is not at all easy as it appears. It involves problems and create new
social, administrative as well as environmental challenges.
Incidentally,
this is seen as the biggest ever administrative exercise undertaken by
any state government in more than two decades. Even Chhattisgarh,
Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, that were created in November 2000, were not
witness to such a massive shift of employees.
Employees
and files of more than 32 departments in the state secretariat as well
as 89 directorates located in Hyderabad would be now moving to Amaravati
by June 27,
which is reportedly the new deadline set by CM Chandrababu Naidu. At
the same time the state administration may even slip into a vegetative
state during this shift.
