Sources from Chennai have stated that the Chief Minister Jayalalitha, on Thursday has moved criminal defamation charges against Tamil magazine “Nakkeeran” for allegedly publishing an article that defamed her and the City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan has moved the complaint before the Principal Sessions Court.


It is said that Mr. Jegan has alleged that the May 20-23 issue of the Tamil weekly published a news article under the title ‘Containeril Pannam Pathukkal; Marraikapatta Unmaigal. Sikkiya Aavanangal” which means hoarding of cash in containers and Hidden truths, seized documents.


Mr. Jagan has said that the news article has been published with an intention to tarnish the image and reputation of Ms. Jayalalitha who has been re-elected as the Chief Minister with the massive support of the people.


Meanwhile the prosecutor has sought the court to initiate proceeding under Sections 499 and 500 of the IPC against the magazine’s editor R.R. Gopal, which was told by the special correspondent Dhamodharan Prakash and reporter Arun.
