Earlier on Friday the DMK's Tiruppattur MLA K R Periyakaruppan and six other party men have jointly filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail in a case which was registered by the Thirukoshtiyur police for allegedly attacking AIADMK men.
It is said that the police have registered a case against Periyakaruppan, S Ravichandran, C Chandran, and four others based on a complaint which was filed by AIADMK member M Narasinga Perumal of Pattamangalam in Sivaganga district.
Perumal has also stated that the DMK men have attacked him and others with deadly weapons on May 11 while they were campaigning ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly election.
Sources have stated that in their anticipatory bail petition, the accused has said the case had been registered against them due to political enmity and the petitioners have said they were ready to abide by any condition and offer sufficient sureties.
