Madhya Pradesh Government has waived road tax on a Luxury vehicle worth Rs.1.35 Crores which is owned by Shankaracharya Jyotishpeetha (Badrikashram), Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati.
According to sources, Tax amount of Rs.11 Lakhs was waived off during a state cabinet meeting that was chaired by Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The original cost of the bus was about 15 Lakhs but with more modifications like Washroom, Lift, Bed, the cost of the bus went up to Rs.1.35 Crores.
Parliamentary affairs and health minister and the state government spokesperson Narottam Mishra told reporters about the cabinet’s decision after the meeting. But Minister never disclosed the amount of tax exempted. The Swamiji's disciples were pursuing authorities to get tax waived off.
Swami Ramanand who is disciple of Shankaracharya said, "Swamiji is protecting Sanatan Dharma. Hence, the tax exemption is justified. We are happy that the state government has done this." Congress also never opposed the cabinet decision. Congress spokesperson thanked Chief Minister Shivraj Singh for waiving off the tax.
