In a heartbreaking incident 8 school children were killed and 9 injured when a Maruti Omni van carrying school children collided with a private bus at Kundapur, 90 kms from Mangaluru in Karnataka.
The incident occurred at Mohadi Cross, Trasi, Kundapur, Gangolli Police Station limits.19 people were there in the van along with teacher Philomena, driver Martin and 17 students studying primary to VI standard in Don Bosco school.
The private bus was travelling from Byndoor to Kundapur and the Maruti Omni was coming from the opposite direction. Two children died on the spot, six succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital. Six students are now getting treated at Chinmay Hospital, Kundapura and others have been rushed to Kasturba Medical College Hosital, Manipal.
Two of the students are said to be in critical condition. Five ambulances brought the students to KMC. Dy SP Kumaraswamy and other officials visited KMC hospital.
