Madurai sources have stated that Sri Lankan naval agencies on Friday have detained four Indian Fishermen and their country boat on charges of poaching in the territorial waters of the island nation.


Sri Lankan’s navy website has stated that Sri Lankan coast guard with the help of the country's navy held these fishermen 10 nautical miles off the Mannar coast and the arrested fishermen and their country boat were handed over to Mannar assistant director of fisheries for further action.


Meanwhile fishermen activist U Arulanandam of the Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen has said that they don't know exactly from where these fishermen sailed and they have thought they hail from Pamban.


It is stated that as many as 77 Indian fishermen are in Sri Lankan custody presently which includes those detained on Friday.
