The ongoing protests against the Mallannasagar project has now a drastic, serious and a violent turn. The police had resorted to lathicharge followed by firing in air on Sunday to disperse the irate villagers who came together for a road blockade in Dubbaka assembly constituency.
Blockade on Rajiv Rahadari
Initially, the villagers of Vemulaghat wanted to organize a road blockade on Rajiv Rahadari, which is the Hyderabad-Karimnagar highway marking the 15-day relay hunger strike. Hundreds of villagers were seen on the highway.
On the way they were stopped by police near Pallephad, proposed submergence village in Mallanasagar. Later the police had resorted to lathicharge on the villagers beating up even the elderly, children and women.
Political observers feel that the overconfidence and hubris of TRS led government in Telangana is now being felt everywhere. Entire Telangana was shocked to see how this was happening in their new state and most say the TRS fall may have started here!
