The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly directed the  irrigation officials in releasing water from the Srisailam dam to Rayalaseema region and that too as soon as the level touches 837 feet. This comes as a surprise decision from this statesman.

Pothireddypadu canal release

Sources say that AP officials have already prepared an action plan that envisages providing water for the four drought-prone districts of Seema from the Srisailam dam at this level contrary to the waiting approach for Pothireddypadu canal release when water reaches 854 feet.

Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti

The water levels currently in Srisailam is at 810 feet compared to the full reservoir level of 885 feet. Through Pothireddypadu head regulator, water would be sent into the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) project. This would mean a lot of relief to the farmers in Rayalaseema.

The state government is gearing up to divert about 100 tmc feet water to Rayalaseema through the Telugu Ganga canal, Srisailam right bank canal (SRBC) as well as GaleruNagari lift irrigation project. This is seen as a political masterstroke that will take the sails of Pro-Rayalseema agitating groups and the YSRCP!
