Right after the resignation of Gujarat CM Anandi Ben after her surprise resignation speculation increased on who will be the next Gujarat CM as it is the most important state for BJP. It is known that PM Modi ruled the state unopposed for record time and BJP cannot afford to lose the state in the upcoming assembly elections. 


Many names did rounds and even the name of BJP national president Amit Shah did rounds. However BJP ruled out Amit Shah name saying it needs his services in the upcoming UP and other state elections. Now Vijay Rupani will be the next CM of Gujarat and he will succeed Anandi Ben. While Vijay Rupani will take oath on Sunday,7th Aug,2016, Nitin patel will be sworn in as deputy CM>.


Rupani was selected by the party MLAs ata meeting inthe presence of BJP president Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari as observers. Vijay Rupani was the minister for transport, water supply, labor and employment in Anandiben's cabinet and is the state BJP president. He won from Rajkot West seat in 2014 for the first time after the seat was vacated by Vajubhai Vala, who became Karnataka Governor. 


Rupani was the most non controversial person and enjoys acceptance among party cadre. Anandi Ben resigned following criticsm for her handling of patidar protests demanding reservations. She also mismanaged Una violence which resultedn protests by Dalit organisations.
