Thrissur sources have stated that the district panchayat is planning a project to make Thrissur a child-friendly district with the support of UNICEF and if implemented successfully, Thrissur will become the first child-friendly district in the State.


The district panchayat president Sheela Vijayakumar has told that the Social Welfare Board will implement the project with the support of UNICEF and the district panchayat has earmarked Rs.12 lakh for the project, where a workshop of local body chiefs will be organized to discuss the project this month.


Meanwhile the district panchayat president has said Vigyan Sagar, a dream project of the panchayat will be inaugurated in coming January and an amount of Rs. 2 crore has been allotted for the project and a 3D theatre will be constructed with Rs.5 lakh from the MP fund.


Meanwhile another Rs.13 crore has been allotted for Skill Park, which will come up on nine acres of land and the project has been prepared with the support of Centre for Materials for Electronic Technology (C-MET) and Indian Space Research Organization.
