Chennai sources have stated that the Crime Branch CID of the Tamil Nadu police, which is investigating the robbery of Rs. 5.75 crore from the parcel van of the Salem to Chennai Express, would also peruse the passenger manifest of Train No 11064 that departed Salem to Chennai on Monday last.

Meanwhile Cyber crime experts were also analyzing the mobile phones that were active at Ernakulam, Coimbatore, Salem and Chennai railway stations on Sunday and Monday last and the investigators are also wondering why there was a delay of about six hours in unloading Rs. 342.75 crore worth of currency stuffed in 226 wooden boxes.

When asked on the possibility of the cash-laden van being abandoned either in Salem or Chennai yard without police surveillance, the official has said armed escort police personnel were present when the cash was loaded and unloaded.

Sources have stated that the Reserve Bank of India officials have come six hours later to open the van in the presence of police and railway officials and they are trying to understand why the parcel van with so much of cash was kept waiting for bank officials to come and Inquiries were also being made with government and private bus operators in the area about suspicious persons boarding with huge baggage.
