Chennai sources have stated that Chief Minister Jayalalitha on Tuesday has announced various projects worth Rs. 310 crore for Anna University to improve engineering education in the State and the government will also set up an automobile technology centre at the university to study ways to reduce emission of carbon dioxide as Tamil Nadu is at the forefront of automobile and spare parts manufacturing.

Ms. Jayalalitha has said as the university was regularly conducting international seminars to improve the skills and knowledge of students, a mega auditorium with a capacity to seat 5,000 people would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 50 crore.


Meanwhile the Chief Minister has also announced a Rs. 50 crore centre for promoting international research and development and training. The centre would act as a facilitator for obtaining information on patent rights and for securing patents.


The Chief Minister has also stated that a new arts and science college would be set up at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district as students from the economically weaker section and tribal areas had to travel 40 to 50 km every day to colleges in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris and an allocation of Rs. 8.29 crore has been made for this.
