People of India and for that matter entire world cannot forget the dastardly rape of Nirbhaya in New Delhi in a moving bus in Dec 2012. Now according to the latest in a shocking incident Vinay Sharma, one of the convict who was sentenced to death in Nibhaya Gang rape and murder attempted to end his life committing suicide in Tihar Jail on Wednesday.
It is comingout that Vinay Sharma consumed pills and tried to hang himself. Vinay took pain killers and later tried to hang himself with the help of a towel. He is now admitted in Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital.
He is out of danger according to the hospital authorities. In 2013 Jail inmates thrashed Vinay in 2013. Vinay Sharma demanded extra security last year in jail claiming that jail inmates and other police officials were assualting him physically.
Another convict Ram Singh, the prime accused was found handing in 2013 inside the Tihar jail. Ram Singh (34) had hanged himself in Jail No. 3 at 5 am in 2013. Ram Singh, his brother Mukesh and four other accused in the case had been charged with murder, gangrape, destruction of evidence, criminal conspiracy, dacoity, unnatural sex and common intent in the case.
According to Department of Psychiatry, Central Jail Hospital, Tihar, report says more than 20 prisoners committed suicide in the last 16 years in Tihar Jail. Four convicts - Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh and Pawan Gupta were sentenced to death while juvenile came out of jail in December last year.
All the six were found guilty of rape,torture and murder of 23 year old pharmaceutical student Jyothi Singh in a moving bus in Delhi.
