Sources have added that it is barely a fortnight for Bakrid and the festival marks the continuation of an Abrahamic tradition, also a practice of the Prophet Muhammad, that selflessness and sacrifice are key components of the faith and keeping in with this tradition, Lakhs of Muslims across the city, state and country either perform the ritual sacrifice that is the slaughter of sheep personally or partake a portion of larger animals.


It is stated that agencies of the state machinery, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the police, are on their toes and it is also a time when cattle traders and cow protection activists are overtly active.


Meanwhile there has been a growing concern within cattle suppliers and buyers and also among the Quraishi community, known as the Jamiat ul Quraish, with regards to these cow protection vigilantes.


Further, it was on Wednesday that city police commissioner M Mahender Reddy at an inter-department meeting has said that those vehicles carrying animals would be checked and those found violating rules would be confiscated.
