Hyderabad sources have stated that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)'s decision to deny road-cutting permission has derailed Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) plans to improve water supply in 10 GHMC peripheral circles under Mission Bhagiratha.
Meanwhile the Telangana government has decided to provide potable water to every household under Mission Bhagiratha and sanctioned Rs 1,900 crore for the project, including construction of service reservoirs and laying trunk mains and distribution network to supply Godavari and Krishna water to the 10 surrounding municipal circles.
Meanwhile, water board has asked contractors to procure pipelines and keep them ready by December and the board aims to complete construction of service reservoirs by February 2017 and distribution network by April next.
It is stated that to monitor progress of work, the HMWS&SB has installed closed circuit television (CCTVs) at construction sites and linked them to the command control room at the water board headquarters at Khairatabad.
