Celebrities can never just sign brand endorsements just like that as misleading advertisements can take them behind bars for a span of 5 years and face a fine of Rs.50 Lakhs under a new draft law. This will be taken up by a group of ministers today.

The Centre in August last year had introduced the Consumer Protection Bill 2015, in Lok Sabha, to repeal the 30 -year-old Consumer Protection Act. A Parliamentary Standing Committee submitted its recommendations in April.

Celebrities are bound to be extra careful hereon.

After studying the report,  Consumer Affairs Ministry has accepted some key recommendations and they have decided to take some stern action on celebrities for wrong endorsement products.

A group of ministers, headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, is scheduled to meet today to discuss the changes proposed by the Consumer Affairs Ministry in the draft law before placing it for the Cabinet approval.
