West Bengal CM Mamata Bannerjee finally had the last laugh over Singur land deal when Supreme Court on Wednesday quashed Singur land deal which the then left government headed by Buddhadeb Bhattacharya in West Bengal during its regime acquired 1000acres in Singur in 2006 for Tatas for its Nano car manufacturing plant.

Supreme Court quashing the Singur land deal remarked "The land acquisition process adopted by the then CPM government, which was opposed by the TMC (Trinamool Congress Party), was wrong on many counts," It directed the West Bengal government to return the land to the original owners after undertaking survey with in 10 weeks.

Right after the verdict locals and farmers celebrated by throwing gulal with joy. They shouted slogans in support of CM Mamta Bannerjee. It is Mamta Bannerjee who launched protests against the land deal and the agitations forced Tatas to move out of the state.

Supreme Court heard the pleas of the Tatas, the Bengal government and the aggrieved farmers of Singur  in May this year and reserved its verdict in the case. Mamata Bannerjee right after coming to power passed legislation taking over the land which forced Tatas to move out to Sanand in Gujarat.

Mamata Bannerjee after the Supreme Court judgement came with the following tweet.
I am very happy today. Historic verdict of the Hon’ble Supreme Court on Singur land acquisition is a landmark victory of Maa-Mati-Manush.
She said "I had dreamt of this SC verdict for so long, for the people of Singur. Now I can die in peace. West Bengal is the final industrial destination, keep that in mind,"

Analysts say that Mamata Bannerjee indeed scored a big victory while Tatas suffered huge loss and Tatas claimed in court that they suffered around Rs 1400crs. The verdict sounded death knell to the left.

If people are under the impression that farmers are the big gainers, infact they are the big losers. This because Tatas already started constructions over their lands and this must have rendered the land uncultivable.
